Tune In Neighbourhood Improvement Workshops

Image of the Tune In logoDuring the financial year 2007/08, the Safer Surrey Heath Partnership organisations worked with residents and local stakeholder groups to pilot three Tune In Neighbourhood Improvement Workshops in the borough. The idea behind Tune In was to give residents the chance to talk about the issues which concerned them, and to work with each other and local agencies to find solutions.

Image of the Tune In workshop May 22nd 2007The first pilot Tune In workshop was for residents of Mytchett and Deepcut and was held in May 2007. A successful turn-out from residents and community organisations has led to greater community involvement in addressing neighbourhood concerns. For the residents of Mytchett and Deepcut, these concerns included lack of facilities for young people, problems with speeding and parking, and how to build more community spirit. These are now being addressed in a variety of ways, including proposals for a new teen shelter, stronger co-working between community groups and continued enforcement of parking restrictions.

A second Tune In workshop, for residents of Bagshot and Windlesham, took place at Bagshot School on 14 November 2007. The event saw more than 100 residents, borough, county and parish councillors, as well as officers from the Tune In partner agencies, getting together to talk about how to improve community life in the two villages. The three workshop topics at this event were, "How can we...improve road safety, improve youth provision, improve community safety.

The third Tune In workshop was for residents of Frimley and Frimley Green and took place on 27 March at Cross Farm Infants School, Gresham Way, Frimley Green, Surrey GU16 6LZ, between 7pm and 9pm. Eighty-six residents living in Frimley and Frimley Green attended.
