Vehicle crime stickers

In May 2007, the Safer Surrey Heath Partnership funded a North West Surrey Police (nonw West Surrey Police) initiative to remind drivers not to leave valuables behind in their vehicles. Some 10,000 anti-theft car window stickers were produced and distributed across the borough.

The stickers carried two messages - one to the car owner and one to any would-be thieves. The side facing out read, "Nothing of value is ever left in this vehicle", while the message facing the driver said, "Always remove items of value".

The free stickers could be picked up from a variety of premises, including Surrey Heath Borough Council's Contact Centre, Camberley police station, Camberley library and the Main Square information desk. They were also available from the Camberley Travelodge and Bagshot Travel Inn on the A30, and through Surrey Heath Neighbourhood Watch.

PC Robin Wood, Crime Reduction Advisor for West Surrey Police, said: "Although Surrey Heath experiences low levels of auto crime overall, it is still a fairly prevalent problem in the area. This is exacerbated by people leaving valuables in their vehicles in car parks or parked on their driveways overnight. We've had reports of laptops, handbags and wallets left in cars - all rich pickings for potential thieves. We hope the stickers go some way to reducing the problem by reminding drivers not to leave property unattended in their vehicles."
