Safer Surrey Heath Partnership
Surrey Heath's popular SNAP club nights were established in Surrey Heath in February 2003. Supported by the Safer Surrey Heath Partnership, they are a joint initiative between Surrey Heath Borough Council and Surrey Crimestoppers.
Held once a month at the Camberley Theatre, Knoll Road, SNAP club nights regularly attract gatherings of over 500 young people aged between 11 and 16 years. The evenings are designed to provide a safe environment for young people to meet and enjoy themselves, and to chat with youth and community development workers from local agencies, as well as police community support officers.
The doors open at 7pm and the fun lasts until 11pm. Popular local DJ Leroy provides the music and there is often games, competitions and activities.
Jackie Swaine, Community Safety Officer, Surrey Heath Borough Council, said: "An important part of the evening is to encourage young people to learn the Crimestoppers number, so they can ring it if they feel they have anything to report. They can use it to report if they know someone involved in anti-social behaviour, drugs, underage drinking or criminal activities. We also encourage youngsters to say no to alcohol, drugs and cigarettes and to adopt a healthy lifestyle."
SNAP has finished for 2008. The Friday dates for 2009 are:
