Not In My Neighbourhood Week

Tackling local concerns together
Not In My Neighbourhood Week
The Home Office's annual Not In My Neighbourhood Week campaign, which in 2009 ran from 2-6 November, is about raising awareness of the work being done locally to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

To support the 2009 campaign, Surrey Heath's community safety partners organised a series of events and activities to encourage communities to work together to reduce domestic burglary. Officers also took the opportunity to promote firework safety and anti-social behaviour awareness ahead of Halloween and Bonfire Night, and educating the public about littering and public order offending.

Surrey Heath Neighbourhood Watch supported the events by taking its crime prevention trailer out to locations in Windlesham prior to, and during, the Week. The trailer was staffed by neighbourhood officers from Surrey Police, along with the borough's Crime Prevention Advisor, PC Debbie Reece, members of Neighbourhood Watch, Surrey Heath Borough Council Community Safety Officer, Jacqui Walker, and other Partnership officers.

Residents were able to obtain SelectaDNA property marking kits, provided by the Safer Surrey Heath Partnership. A mobile shed, demonstrating security measures for the home and garden, was used and a stand was set up in The Mall in Camberley Town Centre where officers gave crime prevention advice to shoppers.

Borough Inspector James Norbury said: "Local concerns are at the heart of Not In My Neighbourhood Week and this is why chose to focus on those issues which residents have told us they are concerned about. A range of people work together to keep Surrey Heath safe and this is a great opportunity to demonstrate partnership working with our communities."
