Heatherside consultation survey results

11,900 survey forms were posted to 2,380 properties (five surveys per household). At the end of the consultation (14 August 2009) 2,211 forms had been returned. The mid year Census estimate for 2008 states that there are just over 5,900 residents of all ages on the Heatherside estate. This, then, represents a return rate of 37 per cent.

The responses (by percentage) for each option were as follows:

  • Option 1:Multi-use community run building 16%
  • Option 2: Village Green 24.1%
  • Option 3a: Village Green with skate park 24.9%
  • Option 3b: Village Green with BMX 14%
  • Option 4: Do nothing 20.9%

Known age profile of respondents:

  • Up to 16: 409 (19.7%)
  • 17-24: 191 (9.2%)
  • 25-39: 335 (16.1%)
  • 40-59: 613 (29.5%)
  • 60+: 528 (25.4%)

Summary of findings

  • The age group which most supported the Village Green and skatepark option (3a) was the 17-24 year olds with 35.4% of their support.
  • Option 3a was least supported by the 25-39 year old age group (20.3%).
  • The Village Green option (2) was most favoured by the 25-39 year olds (27.2%).
  • The group least favouring Option 2 was the 17-24 year olds (16.4%).
  • The 17-24 and 25-39 age groups were the ones with the most differing views dependent upon the options. For example, the 25-39 year olds 'most' favoured the Village Green option on its own, but 'least' favoured this option with the addition of the skatepark. The 17-24 year olds 'most' preferred the Village Green and skatepark and 'least' preferred the Village Green option (2).
  • The group which most favoured the 'Do nothing' option was the 60+ group (24.6%). The group least favouring this option was the 16 and under group (13.2%).
  • The largest number of responses to the survey came from the 40-59 and 60+ age groups; with 29.5% and 25.4% respectively. This totals 54.9% of all returns. The favoured options for these combined groups were 3a and 2, although it was a close run thing with 24.5% support for Option 3a opposed to 24% for Option 2.
